The first round of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship ended with Oklahoma State’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard sitting atop the leaderboard at 6-under-par 66, just one clear of Lauren Walsh of Wake Forest (-5, 67) and two ahead of four players tied for third place at -4:  Shannon Tan, Texas; Megha Ganne, Stanford; Lucia Lopez-Ortega, San Jose State; and Rina Tatematsu, Oklahoma State.

Hinson-Tolchard made an immediate impact, with birdies at Nos. 1, 4 and 7 before turning at 3-under 33. Shortly after, she recovered from a bogey at 10 with birdies at 13 and 16-18 to take the lead. In solo-second place, Walsh waited until her back nine (No. 10 start) before taking off on a 5-under (31) sprint to the finish line.

Tied for third place:  Texas Tech’s Tan put up a clean 4-birdie card. Stanford’s Ganne put together a four-birdie run on holes 4-7. Lopez-Ortega buffeted between birdie and bogey, and Oklahoma State’s second player in the top 3, Tatematsu, carded six birdies from holes 2-14.
