At Grayhawk, we are committed to providing our guests with the finest playing conditions possible throughout the year. Therefore, in the fall months of September and October, we close our Talon and Raptor Courses for a period of roughly 2 weeks each for overseeding. Overseeding is necessary because the southwest’s native Bermuda Grass used on our tees, fairways and roughs thrive only during the warm summer months when nighttime temperatures exceed 70 degrees. During the cooler fall and winter months, Bermuda Grass becomes dormant (yellow in color) making it necessary to overseed with a Rye Grass that can thrive in the cooler weather.
The result of the process is a lush green playing surface capable of lasting throughout the fall and winter months...
**Please Note: Grayhawk's Mini-Verde Bermuda Grass Greens are overseeded with a combination of Poa Trivialis and Bentgrass.
